Shane Battier scored 17 points and Nate James and Carlos Boozer added 15 each as No. 18 Duke beat Army 100-42 Saturday in the Blue Devils' home opener.

After starting 0-2 for the first time since the 1958-59 season with losses to Stanford and Connecticut, Duke (1-2) improved its shooting against Army, hitting 70 percent in the first half and finishing at 54 percent for the game.

Chris Carrawell and Jason Williams had 14 points apiece for Duke, which increased its home winning streak to a school-record 37 games. The last opponent to win in Cameron Indoor Stadium was Wake Forest on Jan. 11, 1993.

Chris Spatola led Army (0-1) with 15 points, including 4 3-pointers.

After a 2-2 tie, Duke led the rest of the way. Casey Sanders dunked and Carrawell followed on the next possession with a jumper to increase the lead to 13-2 with 16:27 to go in the first half.

After taking a 52-15 halftime lead, Duke opened the second half with 15 unanswered points. Spatola ended Duke's run with a 3-pointer with 14:46 left in the game to make it 67-18, but the Blue Devils then reeled off another 15-0 run.

Williams' basket after Boozer's steal increased the lead to 82-18 before Army Ray Frederick's hit a 3-pointer.

Reserve Ryan Caldbeck had the honor of making the 100th point for Duke, a free throw with 1:18 left for his only point of the game.

Williams, the first freshman since Bobby Hurley in 1990 to start at the point for Duke, didn't need to do much decision-making. The defense made it nearly impossible for Army to score from anywhere, and 24 of Duke's points came on Army turnovers. Army had nine personal fouls before it got nine points.

Duke fans got their first homecourt look at many of the new players who will have to carry the team following the early departures of Elton Brand, William Avery and Corey Maggette to the NBA.

Freshman Mike Dunleavy, who had two points and six rebounds, made a precise pass from half court to Carrawell under the basket, resulting in a layup that made it 28-8 with 9:47 left in the first half.

Battier grabbed a lose ball dropped by Army's Mike Canty and ran down the court, finishing with a dunk to make it 32-8 with 8:28 to go.
